My bad. I didn't even know what humbugs is so I looked it up from the net and most relate the word to candy.
So, I searched for the expression of the word Humbugs and it relates to deception, or to deceive. I think this is what you are writing about.
Yes, we need to be kinder to others, especially around Christmas and New Year.

As you listed your "humbugs" I thought that throughout the year I do try to live within the princes you speak of as I think most people of conscience would. as I still believe that there are many more good people than bad.
