I meant "daylight" but dictated divide, instead.
My Christmas decoration is not to decorate at all. But I appreciate all the effort and great expense that organizations and individuals do to divide us with decorations.
My father always bought a "bargain" tree and mom made it look good. She was very frugal and saved every ornament, very eclectic collection, and strand of tinsel every year. There were few other decorations in the house. Spent most of her time making Christmas candy and cookies that we consumed in mass quantities. There was no angel hair. I know why. When I worked handling fiberglass insulation, my arms were scratched mightily by the tiny fibers. Angel hair may have been banned for the same reason.
On my first instructor job in a small town it was hard to find housing. I settled with sharing a modified, but beautiful, mobile home that a senior art student had. The money came from an accident settlement. He had reasonably been annulled from a marriage and lay down strict rules about my behavior with women. He also held several jobs around town for very short periods, because of his temper, either he was schizophrenic or had brain injury from the accident.
His artwork was outstanding. He brought home two large potted plants from the landscape place when he worked there. One was a common elephant ear vine that filled one corner. The other was a juniper about 6 feet tall. Both were nice wooden pots.
I came home from class one day and the juniper was decorated to the hilt with gold ornaments and gold strands making it stand out like a Buddhist artifact for Christmas. Two weeks later, when he took off the trimmings, the juniper was dead. Simply too much cover blocking the light that the plant needed to live.
