Bureaucrats and Insurance companies are the same...they already take us for a ride..no matter who pays! We already spend too much for so little!!! We do not have choices of where to go, who to see, etc..once the insurance runs out...we are thrown out onto the streets..if we don't have the $$ for copays (some can't afford even that!) plus all the other games they play...go here, go there, test here, test there, etc...before anything is ever actually done... and prevention!!!!! joke!!!! nothing for prevention... Corporations do pay ....but so does the employee..thru the ying-yang... Guess it's just natural for us to see things differently... depends on which side of the fence one sits.. I'm for Universal Health Care... and that is from someone who knows what it costs to survive..and not survive.. I/my husband and I...alone...have spent over ONE MILLION DOLLARS OF OUR OWN MONEY over the costs of INSURANCE...for our own immediate needs...and I LOST MY HUSBAND anyway...but I had to pay the bills didn't I? I LOST MY SON...BUT I had to pay the bills didn't I? I lost my baby, but I had to pay the bills... and I have had to pay my own hospital and medical bills my whole life...after insurance stopped paying!!!! so... there are two sides to everything...and I would like to now...now...that I am on a fixed income...like to know that I don't have to stretch my soc sec check even more so I can manage a co-pay..or even a reduced prescription!!! Every extra dollar that goes to medical means less groc's...less heat or ac, etc... please...BEFORE I DIE..I'd sure like to get something from my own government without having to pay thru every core of my soul! my view... hugs, lindalaw

Americans already spend twice the amount that other advanced nations spend on medical care, yet we’re not noticeably healthier. Approx. 1/3 of U.S. medical spending produces nothing at all — that’s about $700 billion wasted per year. How is pumping more money into such an inefficient economic sector supposed to stimulate growth?

It is a fact that the economy grows faster when Congress rejects universal coverage.

After Congress defeated President Harry Truman’s proposal for national health insurance in 1949, the nation enjoyed four years of robust economic growth.
The defeat of the Clinton Health Security Act in 1994 was followed by six years of robust economic growth.
The largest step Congress has taken toward universal coverage was when it launched Medicare and Medicaid in 1966. Real economic growth averaged 5.7 percent in the four years prior to 1966, but only 2.7 percent in the four years that followed.

Does anyone really want important personal decisions regarding their health to fall into the hands of a witless beauracrat? You can count me out.

The right kind of health care reform will reap economic dividends. Letting consumers control their health care dollars and choose their own health plan will make us healthier and wealthier by encouraging innovation, eliminating wasteful spending, and making health care more affordable. Nationalizing health insurance, on the other hand, will suppress innovation and encourage wasteful spending, as evidenced by Medicare, Medicaid, etc.
