My tenant recently bought in Avalon and she has been complaining about this or that ever since. I read from your blog some of what you wrote and she chimed in with some of her own concerns. She just told me that the other day she couldn't close the door and lock it. But kept trying until she discovered that she had left the key inside and that's why the car was stubborn about her locking herself out without the key.
I owned two practically identical, except one was completely rusted out in the other California pristine 1957 Firedome DeSotos with that fabulous hemi engine that got 20 miles to the gallon and still wiped out everything I encountered in drag races. Both cars had the pushbutton transmission and it was interesting. Since my left hand was paralyzed in getting worse, a little hard to push them. Anyway, I bought a 1966 Toronado and it was every bit as nasty as that 429 Ford that you described. A lead sled that weighed 5200 pounds with drum brakes--big drum brakes. 90 mph was cruising speed.
