I agree - reading into the action and drawing your own conclusions makes the reader perhaps even build upon the story ... when I read the first excerpt, I not only assumed that Jesse feared the man coming into his office but also that they had a history together and Jesse was not going to let 'it' whatever it was, happen again. One of the best qualities of reading a book is the fact that the story becomes your own interpretation of the situations ... unlike a movie which you have to take what the director gives you. If you leave more avenues open for the reader to 'make it their own' it makes for a better read. Never thought about it, but it makes sense.
