The autistic boy I taught for 4 or 5 years is now in university. He passionately loves opera and computers and playing the piano. He knows the plot and characters of every opera you can think of. He's also a sort of encyclopedia/dictionary. His schoolmates used to ask him the meaning of every sort of word and he'd tell them. Just like that. He was amazing and much loved.

My cousin has an autistic grandson who is going to summer camp he was in kindergarten last year and now is going to a special 1st grade and have a shadower with him. He hates large crowds and does not do well with lots of people or kids in his class. At camp they don't even believe he is autistic, just a few kids, and the teacher says he is getting very outgoing and joining in and he says he just loves going to this camp for special needs persons. They are afraid some of the ones who are not as forward as him now will make him want to go backward, but I don't believe it will affect him. He needs special attention from his parents and lots of love as your grandchild does and gets too. They like one on one times best. That is all I can tell you.
