Eileen, I couldn't agree more that the value of money is minimal compared to relationships. All the same, as you pointed out, there is nothing wrong with getting paid for our creative labor. Just think, doctors save lives, and one would hope they do it because they care about people, yet we don't fault them for expecting payment for their services.

Creativity is God's gift to us, but the work involved in packaging that creativity and publicizing it,demands many sacrifices on our part. Not that we are complaining--but it helps if the recipients of our labor pay to help us keep the lights on!!! :-) Linda Settles

Excellent topic, and amazing how we are looked upon by others!! At our clubhouse, people watch me come in, and they assume that I am getting rich on my books and the written works... They think I should always "donate" my books (so they don't have to buy them) and family and friends are the same... Guess we just have to keep the mystique going...since it seems to be al we have!!! lindalaw

Eileen, this is something I believe you are very right about. Money causes so much strife, pain and meltdowns.

It is amusing to note that people to this day still think of writers as laid back people who REALLY don't work. Heck, who stays up all hours of the night haunted by thoughts and characters?

A writer cannot punch out at the end of the day, this is the reason one is a writer. Take that argument to the dinner table my friend. Perhaps hubby will shower you with lots of bon bons after he realizes this fact.
