This salary and benefit increase brings up the following question: Why should we the people attempt to make our legislator positions, on all levels, especially the federal level, lucrative? As you mention, by the time a legislator gets her/himself into the position, s/he is usually quite comfortable financially for various reasons, thus, doesn't need quite so many job-related "perks". Where is patriotism and sacrifice for your country?
