I always think of the crusades when it comes to organized religion. The crusades were brutal and evil. Many people were forced to “convert” to Christianity. If they refused, they were put to death. The idea of conquering a land through war and violence in the name of Christ is completely unbiblical. Many of the actions that took place in the crusades were completely antithetical to everything the Christian faith stands for. As far as I'm concerned, the church twisted the translations of the Bible to suit their own needs.

Pretty solid analysis, but your supposition that Jesus is more powerful than Satan needs to be challenged. Recall that Jesus went to Hell in order to confront the demoted angel. There, instead of destroying Satan, he listened to an offer which clerics say he refused - fame, wealth and power - he turned his back on it - temptation or the blind eye? Like the church, hasn't the Savior been co-opted? Who is more famous, richer and more powerful than Jesus/Satan, LLC? Aren't we all manipulated by the faults, misdeeds, experiences and motives we refuse to acknowledge? Ask any mental health worker. |
