I've met nearly 100 mystery authors in the past two years, traveling to conventions and the like, and only one told me they sold their first effort at a novel. Rosemary Harris's PUSHING UP DAISIES. I'd say the average is about three or four unpublished novels before one that sells. Took me ten.

Not that we want to wish rejection on anyone, but it makes one feel s/he is not alone after reading that widely known authors didn't make it the first time they put an MS in the mail. |
