Good points, Tygo. I suppose I should have qualified that remark about T. Jefferson. After all, Jefferson kept slaves and there are a number of Jefferson-related African-Americans today, owing to his attitudes towards master/slave interaction (er, ahem...). Two other excellent examples whereof you speak are the Canadian effort to make the Alutes and Inuits conform to white (read: English) standards, and the even more notorious Australian effort to do the same with their Maori aboriginals.
