You make many good points here. The is a writer here that writes with authority on the subject. She has posted several articles on AD of the same. Her name is Linda Settles.
I have commented before that part of the problem is the stigma attached to being as victim, and the public humiliation the victims endure to "prove" they are not liars. The perpetrators, often part of the deadly victim/abuser cycle themselves, cannot even if they desire to get help for their problems effectively without admitting to the licensed therapist the details of their crimes. The law requires the knowledge of this to be immediately reported to the authorities. There is little upside to either party trying to get help, for the system that applies the solution or cure even if there was one known, is often equally as brutal the event(s)in question here.
As a crime it has lasting effects but little confirmed remedy, as the justice system and our societal mores perpetuates the problem, by closeting those would week help on either side of the equation. Until world societies' definitions of this abuse changes, it will only get worse, with every generation damaging the ones that came before it.
Until it classified as a medical problem, like a mental illness that is underlying the behavior, perhaps due to repressed trauma of being a victim themselves, then the problem cannot get better, and all mankind will continue to act out this awful cycle from which there is little or no hope for escape except death.
