My husband has been self employed for most of his entire working life and I currently run my own company. It is difficult to find reasonable health insurance in the US when you own a small business. Because I teach part time at a college, I do have limited coverage for our family, but it pays for very little. I am almost better off not having it at all:) For instance, doctors give you a better deal if you pay up front rather than bill to the insurance company. I am not sure what the answer is. I hope our legislature and the American people are paying attention to the situation in Canada--so we do not create the same results--thanks for sharing so we all can learn.

We have National health care here in Colombia. I know it's far from perfect, but let me say I've had the same cardiologist, for example, for the past 5 years or so and he's just great. Very professional. Doctors here are very good (knowledgeable) and as plentiful as beauticians. We need universal health care in the U.S. If some of those people against it lost their ONLY home fighting cancer or a stroke or for their terminally ill spouse, they'd vote to pass it in a second. As some philosopher said, pain at a distance (someone else's) is far easier to bear than our own.

Sorry to hear of your woes. Here in the USA, people cry out that universal health care would be a disaster. I wonder if we might end up hamstrung too but the costs are skyroocketing! |
