Albert Ple, in his book, Duty or Pleasure, suggests that before the Calvinists, the phrase had the connotation "Enjoy the Day" ... perhaps that is part of what has gone wrong with us - we've been doing too much seizing and too little 'enjoying' what we have all around us.
