haven't written for a bit, school has been busy, and I am a year older
December found my class enjoying trying on Mrs. M's klompen and trying to walk in them before setting the by the door in hope we might find chocolate, gold and not coal
we learned SinterKlaas must have a sense of humor, there was chocolate and gold coins and coal, but closer inspection reveal that the coins and the coal were really chocolate in disguise
Christmas program was fun, kids are well behaved and working hard. winter meant not much snow, just cold as can be.
usual bronchitis-becomes-pneumonia appeared right on schedule
my medic came into the examining room during the midst of the flu season and declared, =we can set our clock by you, Martin Luther King birthday and your yearly pneumonia appears right on cue=.
spring has sprung and is filled with the usual flurry of excitement
daffodils, naked ladies and lilies are all showing above the turf, no blossoms yet, but lots of promises showing
fields all around us are being burned off by ranchers
returning from school it was pretty unnerving driving up to house this week
seeing smoke in the sky, and seeing it getting more and more intense the closer we came to the house caught our attention
by the time we got to the fire; we were relieved that the flames had been successfully doused in our yard, and hadn't come up too far toward the house itself, thank goodness,
it was a tad worrisome,
but at least I didn't have to fight fire itself with water hose in the pasture like last time
we do have grass in pasture in front of the house still standing; but all in the back pasture and the west side pasture is pretty well burned off.... neighbor to the west still has her west pasture standing; so there may be enough grass for the little lady cows who come each year,
I hope they get to come , I enjoy them
the back pasture and the west will grow back pretty quickly, just not sure how fast the little ladies will be able to browse successfully
we are down to 33 days for this school term, all 4 day weeks now until may... our calendar always includes several snow days, and snow was at a minimum this winter
yesterday was pie day for grades 1 - 2 , 3-14 is Saturday, so we had to celebrate yesterday,
today is day 1 of our spring break, it is the offset day for staying late for 2 days during pt conference week
we had our usual 15 or 16 pies brought for the big pie eating day; and as we have done for several years; we served pie to our whole elementary, administration and other adult workers, always a fun time
I downloaded a free packet from teacherspayteachers, regarding pi,
and while the material was a tad advanced for grades 1 -2 we worked on the pages as small groups and did the work kind of watered down for littler mathematicians and it was a fun week getting pi work done before pie day!!
it has been an especially busy time so far this march in grades 1 2;
first it was make the lions and the lambs,
got them up on the wall last day of February, faces to the wall, and then when we got back first day of march turned the gloating lions out to jeer in the hallway ..... march roared in like a tornado lion!!
lambs finally got their chance to turn their faces to the hall this week, about time, warmer, nicer weather
then kids in kinder and grades 1 2 made leprechaun traps,
the leprechaun got into the k room and turned over chairs and tossed toys, and sprinkled glitter everywhere
we managed to stave off the little miscreant with our traps set in the hall near our classroom door
I had told the kids that we who have irish in our genealogy put bowls of milk on the porch for the leprechauns so they will be friendly,
one little boy brought a box of milk for his trap, he was so delighted to find all the milk was gone, but the trap was still ready to pounce, we decided we must have 2 leprechauns working together to get the goodies and make sure the traps don't spring
oh it has been busy!!

A good story about that 'mini-tornado'. Let's see, Kansas, a fair, a 'twister', it all sounds excitingly familair. But your story is real. Good, concise, easy-to-read writing.
