Hi Keith,
I understand and respect your comment on the qestion of if the government should take over the failed banks. I was addressing a capability track record on some government managed agencies...not profitability. The issue I was trying to get across was management...In fact the financial industry to include Banks have profits that are way beyond the realm of any in private industry.

This is an easy question, Bill. None of those agencies has to operate at a profit under severe commercial pressure (or any pressure) - each one is a monopoly. EAch one presents its financial needs to the government each year. If each had to compete for a tender, the job would be done at less than half the price I think.
I've been following the fear in people about government control with great interest, Bill. I do agree with your blog. However, as a "kid of Socialism" I understand the danger in it.
Of course the idea of the government to make medical decisions is absurd. Just as absurd is it trying to change the constitution. If I'd be living in NY, I'd be breaking the law by owning a gun, 'cause my constitutional rights are being taken away.
Instead of pounding on our rights, though, we must focus on our responsibilities as well. As long as the American people are ignorant toward such responsibilities someone has to make important decisions for them. People like to be not bothered. They want to be lulled into reality TV and a yearly cruise vacation down to the Bahamas. A wake up call is urgent. Maybe this 'threat' of socialism and government control will do just so.
America is in a state of confusion, right now. And I think it won't get any better until this current administration either finds its rhythm, or gets released in four years. Problem is; we (citizens) not only don't have trust in the government, we CAN'T have trust due to the lies told in the past, and the ones told as we speak.
The only government agency I personally trust is the U.S. armed forces. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but to me an American soldier still represents the principles this country was built on.
