Hello Linda, I have published 15 books at Lulu. The publishing didn't cost a penny; however, I designed the covers. Now, a book cost $10. Add $5 s&h and the reader has to pay $15 for a 6X9" book. Readers won't pay $15 to read Walker Joe Jackson's books.But I will write til I'm called up yonder. I enjoy the challenge. Good Luck. Red beans and ricely...

BookSurge is likely the best package going out there for self-published authors. Marketing and distribution are the tools we need and these are costly, one way or the other.

The most successful self-published book I have seen (with tons of copies sold every month) was "Awaken the Warrior" by Philip Paul Sacco from Stone Mountain, Georgia. It was published by 1st Books. Philip travels coast-to-coast giving highly entertaining performances and selling his books to packed church audiences. He is his own distribution system and he makes a very good living doing this. People think of Philip as a preacher, but he is truly an actor and a businessman ... with a plan. It works.

Thank you Bonnie... Your work on my gorgeous book is PRICELESS..and no amount of money can pay for the love and dedication that you gave to this project for me..a friend! I am so proud of my cover...and the interior is formatted very nicely too! I do want to add to this blog...that I did also check out the AD publishing route...with Craigspress...and I was HOPING that it would be affordable for those of us who love AD and especially since we are members as well! Their pkg's are both great..no getting around it...however...the pricing is just so expensive (unless one doesn't have to worry about budgets and money to burn).. One pkg is almost $3000, and the other is $4000... Perhaps we should consider another "Help an author Fund" and accept donations in hundred or thousands nstead of five and ten...??? I am not knocking this opportunity for those who can afford it...but...most of us here cannot! so... we are back to square ONE! Searching and hoping that we can find that miraculous pebble in the sand that will give us a fair price, and still include some of the major needs of an author!! Suggestions?
