I guess everyone has his/her own opinion. I personally prefer to read expressive poetry. Rhymes and meters are good, but without expression, it takes the meaning of the poem away.
Like eating a well-cut sandwich without the miracle whip.
I like poetry that can be spoken aloud when it's an angry poem; spoken softly and sweetly when it's in love; spoken in rejoice when met with happiness; spoken in pain when met with sadness; shouted loudly when making a political statement.
I would choose to read an expressive poem anytime.
