"Writer or Artist?"

How right you are that for those reading what we write, they can be taken to places they may never see in life, experiencing things in a way they may never imagine. My husband carries my "business card" that "advertises" my website, which says, "Take yourself to a different place. . . a different time. . . read a book. . . expand your mind." I think that says it all. When I tell someone I am a writer, I too get the look that says, "Oh, yeah?" Then they ask "what do you write?" It is hard to define what I write. I don't write romance, horror, fantasy. I've written novels that surround human nature, some that contain bits of history, cultures, and people in everyday situations, and trying to make that interesting enough to interest a reader isn't an easy task! I've never been one to promote myself, and promoting my writing is just as difficult as promoting myself. It isn't easy being an author. . . you feel isolated, and often set off in a corner as though a freak of some sort; sometimes it feels as though we live in another world. Art is indeed in the eye of the beholder. I write, I illustrate, but I'm not seen by many as an artist. I've never had a "showing" of my work to advertise my abilities, I'm not a public sort of person. Maybe that's my problem. I have to chuckle at that. I'll just live in my own shadow I suppose. They say an artist's popularity comes about following their demise.
