I agree, Terry, how satisfying it is to be able to write what we please and not what we're told will sell. A book ain't necessarily good because it sells well and a book ain't necessarily bad because it doesn't.
We write because we like doing it and our greatest reward is getting praise from fellow writers and not expecting financial rewards.
Keep writing, Terry, because I for one will kepp reading what you write!

You actually expressed my frustrations better than I could. When I look back at our true "great" writers, it was never an easy road for them to walk--not that I am even on that path!

Just read your very personal article on "writing" and am not sure what I would do? I couldn't write anything that didn't represent my true self. You are to good a writer for that, but you might vary a little bit and add a little more "spice" as they call it, just to get your foot in the door. Then once you were established, then you could go back to the way that you really write what you feel.
Best of luck, I can feel your frustration in not knowing what to do? Just remember, however, that so many excellent people in their craft that have had to hit rock bottom, before they could climb to the top. So make your decision on wether to hang in their or go the other way?
