Boy, Mary. You got that right. I have a new poem for my forthcoming book that has had few hits and few reviews and a great article on our Nobel Prize writers with little action. And sometimes I get hits on some really dumb little tidbits.

I've often thought the same thing myself. I have noticed one thing. If you post a writing and it's getting no hits, sometimes if you change the name it makes all the difference. I don't get why you get more hits because your gold. I also don't understand why I have one particular poem that has over 900 hits. None of the others come close. I asked Author's Den, they said it's just the popularity of your work. Take care.

I am am afraid after everything I have read so far, you have summed it up as nicely as Joe. I don't think hits sell books. You are right, I know people and I am one of them, that buy books by author friends I meet on the Den. I think we all try to be supportive to each other because we have one thing in common WE STRUGGLE. And what a struggle it is. We may never see the light of day with a big time book publisher with all the marketing power, etc., behind it.

Hits mean something but not as much as a dollar in one's pocket. Walker Joe is quite accurate when he says folks don't generally pay $15 or more for a novice author. Some are being kind (bless & thank them) and buy each other's books. We have to remember the competition of used bookstores, also. For $2 one can usually get a bestseller not more than a year or 18 months old. That isn't bad. I paid $4 for The Notebook at a garage sale & thought the price was high (the read was great)! Here I am re-newing, blogging, etc. and have nothing to sell! :)

Now the problem is, where do we sell them? Everyone on the DEN seems to agree this is a great place to make friends, reviews, and I love it, but it doesn't sell their books. For those with limited funds (and can't afford to pay for publicity), this poses a real problem. Let's face it, we all want to reach people with our work, but it would be nice to make a few $$$ while we are at it.

This is a tough question, because the answers vary. I cherish the friends I have made on the Den, but I have not made a whole lot of Sales, here, a few people have bought my book, and I have been touched by the things they have said, but I think AD is more of a place for working on your writing than it is for selling.

My membership is bronze so I can Blog. I enjoy the blogging. My books at lulu.com costs $10. Add $5 for S & h and a reader has to spend $15 for a 6 by 9 inch paper back. At any book store, readers pay about $9 for best sellers paperbacks. Readers won't pay $15 for a novice author. If you want to sell books AD is not the place to do it. It's like shoveling s...against the tide.

Well, it sounds like we are all in a quandary over these so-called "hits". I guess it is just a way of getting noticed. But now you have raised an interesting question, folks. You have books for sell on THE DEN, but it doesn't sound like they sell? This would rather negate the idea of so many visits to your site! I was going to do sell my second one on THE DEN, but now I am just not too sure!

I don't understand them either.
I have had 329 'clicks' on my signed bookstore and 1 sale. AD's blurb says that a 'click' on the bookstore happens when the visitor goes to the credit card page. Yeah, right!

I'm confused over this, too, Terry, but my confusion is in... I joined in June and purchased a Gold membership at that time. As of now, I have had 83,367 "impressions" and 601 "Clicks" and so far have sold one book through AD but it never showed up a sold book.
Other than this confusion, I feel much as Linda Law.

Join the club Terry... I am a mbr who does not understand the hits...or much of anything else...except....I have made some wonderful friends on AD...and I get to practice, write, post and sometimes be fortunate enough to receive a nice review! I've been here almost 7 mo's and have rec'd abundant hits/reviews and so grateful...yet..the book doesn't sell on AD.. I sell on other sites pretty well..so assume writers/authors are too involved with their own work...$$$ is tight, and so many of us barter services, books, etc.. I purchase one book a month on AD..read and review every single one...but have only sold 2-3 on this site...and never had a review/blog on my book... so...we take what we can get, and give more than we receive...it's the only way...We just learn as we go...
