Your premise is interesting but, I fear, less than rewarding. The more science discovers about the brain and mind of sapient critters, the more unlikely we will find gods or even 'sprituality' ... brain, to be very general, is an organ regulated by hormones, neural connections and stimulus centers. Mind, by and large, is the means by which we 'cope' with our environment. They are connected, of course, in the same way our stomachs and skin are, to make a whole. More and more research suggests that we are a complete, entire creature without separate body, 'soul' disconnects. 'Soul', 'spirituality' and 'god' become meaningless words when converted to a physical language. The Christian philosopher, Albert Ple, redefines Free Will as 'pleasurable fascination' and pleasure, science has shown, is derived from dopamine and such flooding the synapse patterns of the brain. The means of stimulating these pleasure centers is varied as life itself, from stargazing to worship of a symbol. Even 'negative' coping styles are entertwined with coping styles, e.g., those prone to immediate condemnation/judgemental/rigid behavior are as addicted to the sort of stimulation that helps them cope with this or that stress, just as alcohol or heroin addicts, those addicted to violence and prayer, sex or thrill seeking, shopa- and worka-holics crave. These 'weaknesses', to those who use power to ease their fears, are easily manipulated. But this topic may yield some interesting discussions and I hope you get a wide response.
