Dear Rosemarie,
Indeed you are such an ongoing inspiration to women far and wide. It's great to see you at work even when you're between books. Most of the time, it's those articles and little pieces which grow into inspiration for our next volume of important work. I have been keeping my eye on Sudan's Rebecca Garang on African politics. Her husband, John Garang, Sudanese vice president and former rebel leader killed in a helicopter crash. Upon hearing the news of his death about three years ago, she urged the people to continue her husband's mission. Within days, Rebecca emerged as a powerful force in a place where women very rarely have a public role. She set up a peace deal in steps to continue with her husband's mission and said this, "In our culture we say, if you kill the lion, you see what the lioness will do."
So it is stories like these that keep women in the public eye as strong matriarchal polical leaders. Keep up the good work, Rosemarie.
