Friends of the Calumet Public Library will host author Deborah K Frontiera, Wednesday evening, March 11, 2026 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. This award-winning author will read from and disuss her writing process for her latest book, Douglass Houghton: Michigan's Pioneer Geologist, Doctor and Teacher. Douglass Houghton had a huge impact on the Keweenaw region when he reported to the State of Michigan as its first State Geologist, the region had copper deposits that could be commercially developed. This began the nation's first mineral rush early in the 1840s. Calumet, in the heart of what was named Houghton County, will share many interesting details. |
