The fourth annual Weaving Words Festival of Stories will take place on Sunday, August 30, 2015, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sharon Temple National Historic Site and Museum in Sharon, East Gwillimbury, just north of Toronto.

Weaving Words is a celebration of stories and the many ways that we tell them, through written and spoken word, through music, film and dance.

Storytellers, writers, musicians, film-makers and other performers from a wide range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds will gather to celebrate everything that is special about who we are, where we have come from and where we are going. Through our stories we celebrate our history and our culture with all of its diversity; we celebrate the people who have made this nation great.

The Weaving Words Festival of Stories is a collaborative project produced in cooperation with the Sharon Temple National Historic Site and Museum, Friends of the East Gwillimbury Library, the East Gwillimbury Library, the Town of East Gwillimbury and all our community partners.

To promote literacy within our community and a new appreciation of York Region’s rich and diverse cultural and ethnic heritage through the art of storytelling.

OUR PRIORITIES:

The festival is hosted by one of the cultural and historic jewels of Canada–the Sharon Temple National Historic Site and Museum. The Temple is renowned as a magnificent example of early Canadian architecture and craftsmanship, built by the Children of Peace, a group of people who played a vital role in the evolution of Canadian democracy. They were also celebrated for their musical accomplishments and their strong commitment to literacy and education for all. The site, incorporating several other historic buildings, creates a unique setting for this exciting event.
