We left home at 7am having been warned that the I-81 had lots of road works going on.  We were supposed to meet the Editor of the newspaper for lunch but that was cancelled as she couldn't make it, but we arrived at the Century Club, which was a beautiful building, very old and wonderful original paintings.  It was like going back in time, so elegant and sophisticated.  My friend Dean and I loved it.  The lecture was in a large lounge type room with beautiful drapes, mirrors and lighting and again large original paintings.  Table were set up as if for bridge but with beautiful lace table clothes on each table and 4 chairs around.  In the corner was my spot  with a mic and tall desk type thing to put any notes and hide my bag underneath.  It was filmed for television to be shown on Saturday and when the film crew arri ved they pinned a mic on to my jacket which went directly to their cameras.

When we arrived Dean set up my books on a lovely desk in the room, he is so artistic and they looked wonderful, and the portrait of me was on an easle as you come into the room.  There were two people in the kitchen making sandwiches and we said Maureen was meeting us there with sandwiches for lunch, and they told us they were making our lunch.  That was so funny, I was expecting her to arrive with sandwiches wrapped in tin foil.... but no we were served with the most beautful plate of delicious sandwiches on a pretty silver salver with doily and very delicate china plates and then gorgious looking cookies that had to be home made, but had been ordered in from Wegmans.  We found Maureen is quite something in Scranton and is a retired President of the club.

Well I did my lecture for about 45 mins and then questions and answers.  There were about 50 people there, and after the lecture they went over and got a book, Dean took the money and I signed them, then everyone sat down and had tea and more sandwiches and cookies.  It was all so civilized and everyone was so complimentary about the lecture.  Wow we left in a euphoria, both Dean and I.  He enjoyed it so much too.  At the end the President handed me a gift, which was a Century Club Cookbook, with recipes from all the members.  It was so sweet of them.

After leaving the club we followed Maureen back to her house to collect her husband, and she quickly showed us pictures on the wall of her large family, children and grandchildren. and great grandchildren.  We then follwed her to a restaurant where she had reserved a table for 9 and  one daughter and one son with their spouses and a grandson, aged 16 joined us there.  What a really lovely family they were.  We left around 8pm and arrived home at midnight with Dean sharing the driving.  so glad he volunteered to come with me, and we both enjoyed the day so much.  We had really good feelings about the whole event.  They will be sending me a DVD of the lecture andI will post a link to it when I receive it.

Sold lots of books, and now thinking of how i could do more of those lectures, and in fact Maureen's daughter was asking if we could do a conference wideo call with her class, and she could even arrange it so I could do conference calls with public schools across America, so we are looking into that.
