Sur, Oman; September 17: Isolated reports of ‘Baggage missing’ are not new in travel, particularly in air travel. If in this era of fast world, even after passing a fortnight of reporting of the missing, those baggages were not located by a comparatively customer-friendly airline, this customer hardship could not be kept unreported to public, as travel has become a common mode of travel!
on 4th September 2007 itself, Mrs. Rubina Khalid Shaikh formally submitted the ‘Property Irregularity Report (PIR) For Checked Baggage’ to Jazeera Airways. In spite of running pillar to post, those four baggages still could not be located.
Jazeera Airways’ Country Manager at Muscat, Mr. Hassan Lawati says ‘trying to locate’. But, for the last couple of weeks no communications were possible either with him or with his office, says Mr. Khalid Shaikh Ahmed Mukadam, husband of Mrs. Rubina.
Mr. Khalid’s wife and three children were on summer vacation to India. On their return journey 04th September 2007, they boarded Jazeera Airways Flight No. J9 457 at 08.10 a.m. from Mumbai to Dubai with onward confirmed booking from Dubai to Muscat on Flight No.J9 742 at 10:15 a.m.
On reaching at Dubai, Muscat bound passengers were told that their journey to Muscat was rescheduled to 08.15 p.m. But, Jazeera Airlines did not provide accommodation, and for food the passengers had to make a hue and cry. Mrs. Rubina and her three daughters Afrah, Uzma and Aaisha remained at Dubai airport for long hours.
When disembarking at Seeb International Airport at Muscat, they found that all their five baggage were missing, out of which one small baggage was received later. Four baggage largely containing their personal clothes, children’s school books and spices to be used for the fasting month of Ramadan and for Eid celebration were still missing. Children were worried as their important books with which they would have to prepare for the examination and their new dresses were in the baggage!
As it was not often getting the airline authorities on phone to enquire about the lost baggage, Mr. Khalid Shaikh Ahmed, working as Senior Architect with a private consulting firm in Sur, visited Muscat intermittently, travelling some 375 Kilo Metres from Sur and remaining on leave from duty, to enquire about the missing baggages.
He said he wanted Jazeera Airways to locate the missing baggages and the Airways to ensure no passenger is faced such hardships as his family faced, in the future.
