Several months ago I was asked to, and privileged to have been accepted into a professional writers group, this is a “main stream” writers group with published brand name authors. This experience has been incredible, and I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge and insight. My colleagues for the most part (like myself) are”crusty” New York authors with a few Mid Westerns thrown in. We meet twice a month in mid town and critique each others work.
And while I enjoy the interaction, and of course the unique bond that has been developed. More importantly, I’ve been able to network within a more traditional environment, and of course if one understands the current climate within the publishing industry in terms of POD and “vanity” type publishing, and how it affects authors in terms of national recognition, then one understand that the traditional course is my far the more successful in achieving that goal.
Within the current political publishing climate, it is almost impossible for a published author with a POD or “vanity publisher to achieve national recognition.
As a writer and author my goal is to continue developing my craft and hopefully continue to network my talents within the main stream. My current work POSSESSION is near completion, and should be ready by years end. I’ve already begun the process of securing the expertise of a literary agent who in turn can guide my career to the next level.
