After the event we chatted for a while (over a cup of coffee), and she mentioned a new talent agency that had just opened in the city, called “Ugly New York”. The agency unlike many was getting a lot of publicity from the national media.

Of course, being out of vogue and not knowing what this industry is all about, today, it didn’t much register with me; to say I was mildly interested would be an overstatement.

Anyway, it’s unique in that the agency looks for people that are “not typical model types” but rather everyday looking folks…young, old, fat, bald, you name it!

Founder Simon Rogers, after much success in London launched the New York equivalent, of “Ugly New York”, in August of 2007.

My friend of course, was very excited about this agency, apparently the trend, within movies, print, and TV, is geared now towards average looking folks, with a unique look, rather then model types. As we concluded our chat (and coffee), my friend suggested that “I” had a unique look and that "I" should submit a few photos to the agency, and if I wouldn’t, could she?

Never being one to refuse a request by a lovely lady, I suggested she could do whatever she wanted, and we bid each other farewell.

Last week, I received a call by a talent agent for “Ugly New York”, he had several headshots and publicity photos of me, and asked if I would be interested in meeting with him, and perhaps representation? We met…and I just signed a contract with them…there are no upfront fees, other then the traditional 20% commissions.

Of course I never thought of myself as a model type, however as my friend pointed out I never thought of myself as an author, until ten years ago…anyway we’ll see where this takes us…yea never know.
