Summer starts to sizzle with spoken word artistry by poet Sistah Joy...Can you say that three times fast?…Good. Now imagine local poet Sistah Joy embracing the Spoken Word literary genre in its grandest form, embracing other senses such as music, dance, visual art, food, themed showcases, costuming, and so much more. Unlike traditional poets, Sistah Joy’s poetry, can lay claim to being raw and revealing while being resonant and refined.

Sistah Joy collaborates with the Malcolm X Drummers & Dancers at Eastern Market, Capital Hill's community-based cultural arts center, (7th & NC Ave., SE, Capitol Hill) to celebrate this oft forgotten African American day.
