Todd McKinney has been writing poetry for many years and had always wanted a collection (of) those poems to share.
Recently, he got to do just that when he released the first collection of his published poetry titled “Poetic Decree of Diversity.” McKinney, 24, a Pinson native, said he’s been working for nearly two years to get his poems published and his wife, Lisa, helped him to get it done.
“I’ve been writing poems since I was 15 and working to get this collection together,” he said. “I got the final product out on October 16.”
McKinney said the poems gathered in this first collection are as diverse as the title implies. “There are a variety of topics in the book. I’ve written about a lot of things anyone can relate to,” he said. McKinney said his poetry has been inspired by his parents, his wife and the diverse cultural affairs of the human race. “Poetic Decree of Diversity” is available online at createspace.com/3401319 and by title on amazon.com for $16.98.
McKinney is working a collection of sonnets, a fiction piece on the Civil War, his family history and a poetry book for his church, Community of Christ in Montevallo.
