Who knows what happens when you finally open a door of opportunity. Here is something we did not expect.
The article 'Mundane Astrology' was published in the March 2005 edition of 'Prediction Magazine'. John Davenport and I had worked hard to produce what was effectively a written work where our reputations would stand or fall as mundane astrologers. In short, it had to be good.
What thought that 'Prediction Magazine' might offer us another article some time in the future. We certainly did not expect them to contact us only two days after publication. "How do you feel about writing a 2,200 word article on the UK May elections to go into our May issue? " asked the deputy editor. It was 8 Feb and the deadline was 28 Feb.
Twenty days to write a 2,200 word article doesn't sound so bad but there some important issues to consider. First it was no surprise that most people expected a win by Labour. Tony Blair would be Prime Minister for another four years and it didn't take an astrologer to predict it. Short article huh? Second, there was a lot of research to do in order to make the article relevant and interesting. Three character charts were needed, the history of elections back to 1945 and some hook that offered the reader something more than they already knew. It was a tall order.
Never the less we have buckled down and, as I write this, we are having to edit severely from the 2,500 words written so far.
In some ways we are wondering if this is the magazine's way of testing us. Can we work to deadlines? Is this the beginning of more regular work? It is hard to say at this stage but we have enjoyed the challenge so far and this article will be ready well before the 28th Feb.
People in the UK should be able to get a copy of 'Prediction Magazine' quite easily. I understand that it is also available in Canada. US folk may need to mail order it from their website. Still looking to break the barriers to 'Horoscope Magazine'. Right now I am prepared to believe anything is possible. The first article I put down to me and my big mouth. The second article was commissioned! We must have done something right.
