On July 3rd I will be hosted at lunch by the California Writers Club, Berkeley Branch, who will honor me with the Jack London Award for my work with the Fifth Grade Writer's Contest. For eight years, I have garnered story entries from 500+ elementary schools in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. My panel of readers/judges are plucked from the CWC membership, and quite a bit of prize money is paid out to the winners. These run from First-, Second-, Third-place and 12 Fourth-place winners. Then we have the kids come to our Events Loft in the Barnes & Noble bookstore on Jack London Square, Oakland, to read their stories.
Such an attendance of students, teachers, parents, grandparents and proud relatives from out of town!
This year we will be celebrating our 21st Annual Fifth Grade awards on June 9th. Come if you like. The event starts at 10 a.m.
