I'm an avid romance reader on the adult level but I can appreciate a well written story for the young adults too. There is so often a one dimensional nature to teen romances but not here. Both the characters were fully developed and had believable, appropriate chemistry between them. I am a soft-heart for the English protagonist so Fred had me in the first few pages of the book. I so enjoyed how Brit was empowered to be strong/courageous. I also enjoyed the open ending that allows for a future story about Fred and Brit but also about Angel and Fred's friend. I would very much like to see these characters come to life in another book!

This is a charming fish out of water tale. (Almost) 15 year old Fred leaves his home in England to visit the US while his parents are on holiday in Australia. He thinks he is only working for an XBox by studying the differences between his English and American English, but he finds much more than that. Fred finds love with the daughter of his hosts, the beautiful Brit. He also learns a lot about American customs, with visits to malls, a baseball game and a celebratory barbecue. The characters are believable and the sense of suspense (what will happen by the end of the book) were compelling enough to make this an easy, fun read. I also liked the humor of the character (at one point he feels as if he is a FedEx package because everyone has to keep signing for him at the airport). Great escape and fun.

This was very good comming of age book.It had me at the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next.Fred a young boy from England who is sent to family"s friend house in the U.S.A while his parents enjoy a Australian vacation.There he is met by a lovely family that consists of his parent"s friends and there daughter Brit.Which he very soon takes a liking to and not before long the feeling is mutal.A young love blossoms between them,but not without a few ups a downs.A bully with huge issues with girls and a crying fight between two friends.Nevertheless his vist to the U.S.A is fun with a trip to a baseball game where he turns out to be the star,a unforgetable Boston trip and a barbeque to remember.All while writing down his new found American words and adjusting to girls"s crying.This was his trip to remember and he has the wounds to prove it.All while being a true english knight.I promise this won"t be Fred"s last trip across the pond.
