Why do adults read to children? To amuse? To inform? To inspire? This must have been the subject matter of many a discussion, but this book Little Wing by Jake Taylor and illustrated by Claudia B Montero delivers on every count and will become a favorite for both parents and children for many years to come.

Little Wing is about a young housefly, his difficult start in life and how he finds the answers to the questions that all youngsters have. Little Wing meets many characters on his journey and through his adventures, finds knowledge, acceptance and happiness.

The story is full of color and evocative images of summer, which take you back to your own childhood. The introduction of an assortment of other insects is skillfully carried out and each has its own inimitable character. This is supported by beautiful illustrations which will surely provide an inspiration to any budding artist. The author also describes the sounds which accompany the action and this plays an important part bringing the characters alive. This will also provide plenty of opportunities for the reader to add sound effects, which will undoubtedly delight their audience. The storyline is well developed and proceeds with pace to hold interest and provide learning points for readers.

I recommend Little Wing particularly for parents to read to their children because I think it will provide fun and amusement, but I also think that it would be excellent reading material for children who are reading for themselves.
