Award winning author Carolyn Howard-Johnson has signed a contract with Star Publish for her upcoming release, The Frugal Book Promoter: How to do What Your Publisher Won’t.
For about five cents a day, The Frugal Book Promoter assures that an author's book will get the best possible start in life. Full of nitty gritty how-tos for getting nearly free publicity, Carolyn Howard-Johnson shares her professional experience as well as practical tips gleaned from the successes of her own book campaigns.
Howard-Johnson is an instructor for UCLA Extension's Writers' Program. She will be teaching "Savvy Marketing for New Authors" this fall. The Frugal Book Promoter book tells how to do what their publishers can’t or won’t and why authors can do their own promotion better than a PR professional. It is scheduled for release in August 2004 in inexpensive e-book format to accommodate starving students and authors as well as in trade paperback.

Carolyn Howard-Johnson was a publicist for the New York agency that developed the “10 Best Dressed List” and was an editorial assistant for Good Housekeeping Magazine. She used her promotion skills when her first novel This Is The Place was published; it has won eight awards. Her second book, Harkening won three. Her fiction, nonfiction and poems have appeared in national magazines, anthologies and review journals. She speaks on Utah's culture, tolerance and other subjects and has appeared on TV and hundreds of radio stations nationwide. She loves to travel, has studied at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom; Herzen University in St. Petersburg, RU; and Charles University in Prague. She admits to loving publicity and marketing almost as much as writing.
