Multimedia exhibit made stop Aug 26, 2005 at rural Oberlin farm market.
"Eyes Wide Open Ohio: Beyond Fear, Toward Hope," a multimedia exhibit on the impact of the Iraq war and occupation on Ohio came to Bushel Bob Farm Market on Friday, August 26, 2005 on the corner of U.S. Rt 20 and Quarry Road in Pittsfield Township, Ohio.
Local peacemakers affiliated with Veterans For Peace sponsored the exhibit and other peacemakers affiliated with Peace Community Church and the Libertarian Party of Ohio helped set up and take down the exhibit. Eyes Wide Open Ohio is traveling throughout rural areas in Ohio to expose the Heartland to the realities of U.S. state terrorism.
At the exhibit, visitors moved through a memorial to the war's 100,000-plus Iraqi civilian victims and nearly 100 Ohio troops sacrificed to the waging of U.S. state terrorism. A set of combat boots for each dead soldier was exhibited along with a label detailing that individual's name, age, rank, and hometown.
To represent the more than 100,000 Iraqi civilians that were murderd as a result of U.S. state terrorism, there were more than 100 pairs of civilian shoes scattered about.
The Northeast Region of the Libertarian Party of Ohio had an informational booth at the exhibit manned by Dave Macko, and another booth was operated by Kathy Myrman, a representative of the American Friends Service Committee.
Bob Williams, Ohio Chapter 039 contact for Veterans for Peace, was signing up veterans. Williams said it was important to not forget the plight of Afghanistan, which was invaded and is currently occupied by U.S. state terrorist forces. "Afghanistan quickly became the victim, not only of a vicious propaganda campaign to link them to the Twin Tower attacks, but of U.S. state terrorism in the quiet name of an oil pipeline and the quieter name of CIA opium (heroin)", Williams said. "A British foreign policy is repugnant to any liberty-loving American", he added.
Dave Macko of the Northeast Region of the Libertarian Party of Ohio quoted Thomas Jefferson, who said "Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all peoples, entangling alliances with none". Macko explained that rather than trying to police the world or intervene in the affairs of other countries, the U.S. government should end its British-inherited practice of propping up, defending, or toppling other nations' governments.
Kathy Myrman said she wanted U.S. troops brought home now. Many of the troops stuck in the British-spawned quagmire called "Iraq" are National Guardsmen or Reservists who have since lost their jobs and families while waging war for the Bush administration.
