A new genre for Catriona King whose detective novels, set in Northern Ireland, are excellent. The Carbon Trail is a completely different type of book and just as gripping. Set in America, in the world of scientific research, this is a well-crafted page turner which will play with your mind. I am not scientifically minded but the novel is so well written that the story, about a scientist and his research into a new form of carbon, was easy to follow. And the twists and turns this tale took had me on the edge of my seat. Blood sweat and tears on the page were matched with tension in my head right to the very last word. Catriona King's writing style is clean and clear, her characters are well drawn and their roles are all important to the excellent storyline. She is such a talented writer and, with this new departure, she is proving her worth as a first rate storyteller with many strings to her bow. The queen of suspense - Long may she reign and write.
