"Cruel Cuts," the second in my Sticks Hetrick mystery series, will be released Nov. 1 by Whiskey Creek Press.
Sticks is still an unofficial consultant to Aaron Brubaker, his less experienced successor as police chief of the rural Pennsylvania community of Swatara Creek.
A vicious poison pen campaign directed against an ambitious young lawyer appears to link him to a rash of animal mutilations plaguing the area. Sticks has a history with the young man and his mother and is the obvious choice to investigate.
He is assisted by his protege, Flora Vastine, a rookie officer, and they soon encounter murder, false leads, a series of dangerous episodes and a second murder before the case is resolved.

"Corruption's Child," the third in the Hetrick series, is scheduled for release in June 2008.
