Fishing Expedition

After a fun filled Labor Day weekend attending all the festivities, this young Fallon resident has found his niche. The Cantelope Festival, carnival, Church in the Park, and annual parade were all a joy, but there is nothing finer to this growing lad than relaxing at Liberty Pond.

I have always wanted to join this contest, as the winner gets the COVER of our local phone book, but more for the creativity of finding the perfect pose and photo.  Finally this year I took great efforts to find the 'right' photograph. Originally it was my 3 year old who deserved the spotlight. After all his 7 year old brother has been notorious since his birth. But 3 year olds get real tired of being a model; holding their body just right and their chin real still, so finally at sunset I swapped over-alls with his brother and caught the last rays of the sun hitting my child's soft, tan skin as he 'fished'.

When I very first took the pictures out of the envelope emmediately after developing I knew right there that this was an excellent and a 'winning' photo. Although I could submit 4 photos, I submitted this one and one of his brother fishing. As CC Communications extended the deadline I almost submitted more, however, I just knew this one couldn't be beat. I was wrong....for this didn't make the cover..in fact it TIED for third place. Thus making me regret not trying harder.

I hope I can share this fine photograph with you all. It won't make the cover, but it will be featured inside our local phone book this coming year....I guess I just can't win them ALL, even though I try.

I will update you as I find out if my Community Holiday Recipe's make it to finals in our local newspaper contest (Lahontan Valley News) again this year, as they have the last 5 years. In addition I will keep you posted on my Soroptomist Women's Scholorship Contest which I am entering now to cover some of my college costs. WISH me luck.

Word of advice; do try to participate in contests in which you have talents. You don't have to win (although I honestly must remind myself of this). The journey of creativity and being a part of life is a goal with in itself!
