An Interview With Pamela Ackerson

Tell us a bit about yourself. What would you like us to know about you?

I was born and raised in Newport, RI and live in Florida now. I love it. I love the weather and the people.

What are you doing now? (Career? Married? Single? Children? Pets?)

I'm married to a wonderful husband, Mr Sajak...oh wait, sorry, wrong show. Let's try again. Well, as you can see, I have a sense of humor that some find endearing and others roll their eyes. I am married to a wonderful man. We have 3 children, and 2 grand-children, 4 birds, 1 dog, 2 cats, multiples of fish, 2 turtles, a duck and a goose.

What is your favourite food?

Steamers, but they are impossible to find in Florida so I have to say any kind of seafood.

What is your favourite colour?

Lavender

What is your favourite sound?

Laughter.

What is your favourite place?

The beach.

What is your favourite memory?

I don't think I can pick a favourite memory. I have many good ones that it would be impossible to pick just one.

What is your favourite article of clothing?

Swooshy dresses and skirts. You know, the kind that bell out when your dancing.

What is your favourite word?

What is your favourite writers' quote and why?

It is easier to stay out of trouble than it is to get out of trouble.

What is your most favourite quality about yourself?

My positive attitude. There are times when it has been really hard to find the silver lining but I will always try.

What is the least favourite quality about yourself?

Sometimes I can't let go of the cobwebs in my head.

If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

I am right where I want to be.

What inspires you to write and why?

Life inspires me. Life is an adventure. Sometimes you have to hold on tight.

What is your favourite book and why?

Mr. Potter.

What is your favourite genre and why?

Definitely, historical fiction. It can take you anywhere.

List your three favourite authors (any genre) and why?

JK Rowling
John Jakes
the rest are tied for third place.

What do you think makes a writer successful?

Persistence and a very open view of the world around them. Accepting rejections and mistakes and learning from them.

What is it that makes you successful as a writer?

I love history, combined with my imagination, and the ability to make the reader feel as if they are involved with the story.

What are your goals as a writer?

After the trilogy is completed, I believe I want to try my hand at a younger audience.

What is the best tip you can give to fellow writers?

I find that so many authors tend to get upset when they see all that red ink on their manuscript. Concentrate on the story you are writing and don't be so touchy when it comes to criticism. If they didn't like it, they wouldn't have bothered to take the time to edit it.

What do you hope to provide your readers with through your writing?

Learning about people and history by feeling as if you have lived it.

If you have published a book, tell us about your publishing success (title, publishing date and company, where it is available to purcahse).

We the People is the second book of the Home of the Braves trilogy. It is published through 1st World Library, released in March 2006 and is available at your favorite book store or you can order it on-line at Amazon or Barnes and Noble, etc.

How long did it take you to write your book(s)?

Home of the Braves took me about two years to write and We the People took three years. Out of Many-One is the third book of the trilogy and is a work in progress.

What would you do differently if you could repeat the same publishing experience?

I would have sent press releases and galleys out before the book was released.

What have you learned about the publishing world?

Out of sight, out of mind. But you can't nag either. There are steps to take and a reasonable amount of waiting time, just like any other business.

This is your chance to 'Talk Back' to your readers. What would you like to say to them?

Well, of course, if you haven't already read We the People, buy it or even go to your library and have them order one. It is a good, captivating story. If you love history, romance, time-travel and a tad bit of mystery, you will love the Home of the Braves trilogy.

What's the one thing that you want them to know about your writing?

Their opinion means a lot to me. I love to hear from my readers.
