‘Spring Morning’ is the seventh of eight poems that were written over many years, starting in a distressing period of my life and reaching – gradually, finally – new understanding.
Spring Morning
A doorway’s strict rectangle
Frames cactus and flowers
Hemmed by dun adobe.
On a path of bright tile,
White birds preen.
Mountains corral the desert
And sun and sky embrace.
I hold it all in my mind’s eye,
And my place in that pattern.
