Grady Harp, one of Amazon's top 25 reviewers under a new ranking system (and number 4 on the "classic" list) has lauded Charles B. Neff's HARD CACHE in the review below. Previously, he favorav\bly reviewed Neff's PEACE CORPSE.
4.0 out of 5 starsAnother fine outing for Charles B. Neff, October 14, 2010
For those many people who read and enjoyed the skills of Charles B. Neff in his previous books, such as PEACE CORPSE, then there are no surprises as to his talent for weaving a particularly interesting cast of characters through some at times almost impossible twists and turns. And while he sends signals of ideas of what is to come from one chapter to the next, he can always be depended upon to not leave a character unfinished or without a connection as to what is to come by the end of his stories.
This setting is in the beautiful Cascades of Washington and a 'retired' police officer disrupts his 'escape honeymoon' when the magnet of a dead body is in his path of discovery. This discovery opens the cage for the influx of Ukrainian immigrants, items restored from the Cold War and the atrocities that accompanied that. Bits and pieces of everyone who enters this wild tale has a background and that background alters the plot in very sound ways. And yet again Neff pays homage to his readers by placing the full cast of characters on a page at the front of the book for quick review when the many names get a bit challenging. Neff writes well and has found his niche in thriller! Grady Harp, October 10
