THE COUNTDOWN is a spooky, attention-grabbing story that I found fascinating. The story is well-written and the pacing is just right.... Brent is a hero to die for and one that will die for the cause without complaint. Wynne is a strong woman who doesn't like being kept in the dark and who doesn't believe Brent's story about her being his true mate. Throughout the story, Brent and Wynne are always one step away from a Sarion warrior. Wynne is one hot commodity and there's more than one Sarion interested in her. The only way to get a Sarion off one's trail is for the Carrier to become pregnant by a Seeker or to have already given birth. Interesting, very interesting. The sex between Brent and Wynne is steamy and their fights just as hot. Secondary characters include a few other Variance agents, all of whom I hope we will see in future books.
In the first of what looks to be an exciting and promising series called Variance, Cassidy McKay delivers an intriguing story sure to leave readers wanting more. I know I do!
