Your mind is a wonderful creation from God. Just think of everything you know and can remember, even when you think you forgot something BAM there it is and you are surprised you remembered it. Your mind processes everything you see, smell, touch, hear and feel. And on top of all that it does, it then enhances certain parts and you become a scientist, biophysics, surgeon, teacher, minister, athlete, health aid, chef, mechanic, editor, zoo keeper, artist, writer and more. The list goes on and on. We all need to tap into our minds creative part and see what comes out. No matter what your age is, you have a creative mind.

I tapped into mine years ago; actually it tapped me on the shoulder and said “Time to do something with me and right now.” That’s when my artistic ability and writing ability took hold.

I started writing short stories and poetry when in Utica High school. Through the years I just kept writing and drawing. Then in 1997 I wrote a poem and my mom gave me this piece of paper and said “Enter this.” It was a poetry contest, so I wrote a poem about my grandchildren “Can You See Them” and entered it. To my surprise, I was nominated as International Poet of the Year 2000. I went to Washington D.C., read my poem before thousands of people and received a wonderful plaque. It didn’t matter if I won the title of International Poet of the Year or not. I was in awe that I wrote something and people I never met liked it and honored it. Then more poems were written and for about four years I was nominated as International Poet of the Year for “Can You See Them”2002, 2003; “The Battle” 2003; “Dad’s Pipe”2004 I received an Editors Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry. “The Helper” was included in the extraordinary World’s Largest Poem for Peace by the International Society of Poets. Tens of thousands of other poets from over 70 nations around the world have contributed. For every poetic contribution the International Society of Poets make a donation to UNICEF to help children around the world and to international MS research to help find a cure for multiple sclerosis. Unfortunately my Dad didn’t see this as he passed away in 1998. But his support never wavered nor did my moms who passed away in 2004.

Did I have a clue that when my Mom gave me that piece of paper that I would have achieved so much? No way. And it brought me to where I am right now, a published author of the GRETA YANCEY SAGA.

Fiction writing is a lot of fun to do; your mind can just wander where ever it wants to. You can mix up history characters by putting them all in one era or you can create historically accurate fiction as I do. No matter what I create I am in awe over it and know that without God in my life I would not be able to do all that I do.

Now about that BOOK SIGNING; thought I would think outside the box on this one and actually it should be called BOOK & ARTIST SIGNING. The two illustrators of my books, Rose Marie Scherer and Alyssa Prentice will be displaying their artwork and I might be able to persuade them to do a bit of painting for you too. I will be doing a reading from the books and who knows what else may happen as my creative mind and God work outside of the box!

The BOOK & ARTIST SIGNING will be Saturday October 15 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. At the St. Helen Community Center, 10493 E. Airport Road, St. Helen, MI. 48656. There will be finger foods and beverage also.
