Bryn McAllyster is a divorced mother of two, raising her kids with the relatively cooperative assistance of her ex-husband. She has a career she loves and an abundance of good friends-but she dreams of a new love, one that will last and fill in those empty places in her heart.
Chase Garson is a widower who moves into the neighborhood, the father of three little girls. He still blames himself for the accidental death of his young wife, an accident that followed one of their increasingly frequent arguments. He has stayed away from new relationships, focusing instead on his daughters. But then he meets his attractive new neighbor and begins to come back to life.
With a total of five children between the pair, life is always interesting and often dramatic. Chase must deal with the tender feelings of his children as he enters into a new relationship, while Bryn fights off attempts for a reconciliation by her ex-husband and the daily trauma of raising two young teenagers. Romantic moments are hard to come by and the path is not always a smooth one. But Bryn and Chase seem to know early on that their feelings for one another are special, not likely to come along again soon. As they struggle to try to make their relationship work, other factors come into play, creating havoc in both families. The author does a good job of presenting issues and resolving them in ways that make sense.
This book contains some racy passages and many elements of a romance novel that will appeal to readers of this genre as well as those seeking a slightly different kind of story. It's not a simple love story with one obstacle to overcome, as so many are, but instead a tale of the many types of complications arising from blending families together to form new ones. Lori Zecca shows that she understand these complex situations and the feelings of women caught up in the often conflicting worlds of work and family and I look forward to her future novels.
