This review is from: The Secret Diary of Alice in Wonderland, Age 42 and Three-Quarters (Kindle Edition)
I ordered this book on impulse. I memorized "Alice in Wonderland" word for word in 1960 after my mother played the Cyril Ritchard recording of it over and over again while I slept on the couch for a sleep learning experiment she was doing for her special ed degree. Much of the book is not so quick to my recall now. Anyway, my interest in AIW as a book or a syndrome is substantial.
So I bought the book, and 2 months later started reading at about 9:00 in the evening on a weekend night. I finished at 2:30 the following A.M. So this is what I usually call a "Rabbit Hole" book. Translation: A book that sucks you in to its reality so strongly you can't let go until it spits you out or ends.
The author has an authentic comic voice, one that kept me throughout. The Pythonesque quality is happily married to the Standard American Wish Fulfillment template which is funny and true on so many levels I just had to put in my 2 pounds worth.
It takes you to a dark place in the company of two of New York's finest detectives as they go the extra mile to bring a sadistic serial killer to justice.
