Youth Poetry Group
Girls and Boys with Hearts, (formerly Girls with Hearts) youth poetry group in the Nations Capital was established in nineteen hundred ninety seven by Sylvia Dianne Beverly, founder/director. Its first members were Shamis H. Beverly, Bernadette S. Brown; Jessica D.C. Gaines; Dana Makel; Nina Makel, Rochqual Cain; and Asantewa Disroe. Each girl has moved on to further their education. Bernadette was Valedictorian of her high school class and has moved on to TowsonStateUniversity. Kyndall Brown, Monique Brown, Alonna Hagans, Myisha Robinson and Daquane Robinson are some of the regular members of Girls and Boys with Hearts. The group was formed with the mission of providing instructions, guidance and opportunities for young girls interested in the literary arts of poetry. They perform original poetry, as well as poetry of other favorite poets, such as Maya Angelou and Nikki Giovanni. They would like to publish a book of poetry, which they have already entitled "Sunshine Deep Within Our Hearts". Girls and Boys with Hearts Youth Poetry Group is open to other children and meets the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the Month and will resume in September.
Girls and Boys with Hearts Youth Poetry Group was one of the featured artists at the 7th Annual Black History Festival which took place on February 17, 2007.

When will war end? This war… That war… Your war… Our war… Does it really matter? When is war going to stop? Will it be today? Will it be tomorrow, or next week? End it now! Today!! This minute!!! Now!!!! If it does not stop… Soon there will be no Teachers… No Firefighters… No Mothers… No Fathers… No Sisters or Brothers. But most of all… No America? God Bless America?? Why would he???
