Flash Fiction Stories About Pittsburgh / Most Liveable City / 250th Year Anniversary
The online publication that was going to review Compressionism: The Pittsburgh Stories hasn't done it yet. I'm beginning to think it never will.
The Summer Issue of the Steel City Review is now online at steelcityreview.com. The journal contains my story "Oakland Nights." The story will also be published in the first print publication of SCR which is expected out in December. This will be the first time that a story of mine will appear in a local literary print journal that only prints fiction. I hope the local media gives the journal some play. It would certainly help with my local name recognition. I hope to position myself as SCR's most recognizable writer. Actually living in Pittsburgh should help. Last weekend I finally finished the first draft of a new story and hope to do a second draft this weekend. Once the story is finished it'll be my next submission to SCR.
The webmaster for the Bloomfield Business Association is going to use "La Dolce Vita" on the BBA's web site to help promote Bloomfield's Italian Heritage, its reputation as Pittsburgh's Little Italy and the upcoming Little Italy Days Festival. The BBA will credit me with the story and link back to my AD. It's a thrill to have the online web site of the association of the business and community leaders of a Pittsburgh neighborhood think one of my stories has captured the enthic flavor of their neighborhood and one of its most important events. Now I'm going to go out and eat a late breakfast and do my food shopping for the coming week. Tomorrow is laundry day.
And don't forget "La Dolce Vita." It is a good example of specific, intended, concrete details and the classic form of the short story: the setup, the buildup and the payoff. It is also a good example of the old advice of: show don't tell.
