A laugh a minute as a group of girls explore life highlighting the funny side of growing up.
The year is 2003. It’s the year when Mars turned red before our eyes and remained that way for an eternity, Venus shone like a spear and a time when two worlds collided and then slipped apart. The collision disrupted everything that had any connection of the same ... the split, irreversible and one of a kind.
Now the school looked like most, architecture certainly taking a second place void of creativity. The classrooms created a rectangle with verandahs on the inside where the 2 grass quadrangles were. The colour of the bricks were, well they were brown, boring brown. The only excitement was of course on the first floor balconies. Awesome fun…Many a time I can remember kids being taunted by being hung over by their ankles, screams piercing the air as the kids walking to another class looked up to see if they were going to be spat on. On some occasions someone did get hit, hence the kids being hung over the balcony.
Natasha was still laughing as we walked into the toilet.
“Hi girls, someone new to meet.” They all turned, some smoking some chatting and two broke there kiss to welcome the newest student, “Natasha this is Stephanie, Samantha, Tasha, Ruth and these two’ she through a biro to get there attention, ‘are Jasmine and Julie.’
The girls looked at Natasha with Curiosity, said their hello’s then went back to what they were doing before we entered. Jo took Natasha’s elbow again leading her out. ‘Come on, more to show you.’
Natasha almost tripped from the sudden reversal of movement as she was yet again propelled forward. Suddenly an alarm rang. Jo stopped in her tracks and as she turned to Natasha she had to brace herself from the collision. ‘Whoops,’ said Natasha as she balanced herself and Jo released her hold. All serious Jo looked at her. ‘What’s your first class?’
She looked at her timetable. Jo snatched it from her. ‘Let me look.’ Pause. ‘Oh your in the same class as me through out the day except in your electives. Some are a little different.’ Jo looked up at her. ‘Come on follow me,’ as the other girls raced passed them from the toilets. ‘Beat you there Jo,’ yelled Julie going past at a great rate of knots.
As Natasha sat at the back of the class with the other girls she looked around her surveying the class. So this is my first day at this school. She opened her school book and shook her head. Well bring it on she thought to herself. Next she noticed a pair of pants next to her desk. She looked up and smiled.
‘You must be the new student,’ said Tim the Math’s teacher.
He turned around and in a commanding voice echoed out – ‘Everyone this is our new student Natasha who as you all know we were expecting last week.’ He turned to her. ‘But she has graced us today instead. Make her welcome everyone.”
Natasha dropped her head again but brought to life by a prod by Jo who smiled at her.
